History The Lancaster Brethren in Christ Church has its beginning in 1907 as a city missions project sponsored by a nearby rural church. The first location was on Manor Street in Lancaster. In 1923 the church moved to Caroline Street to meet the needs of the growing Lancaster city. In 1968 the congregation moved to the present facility on Fruitville Pike. We are part of the larger Brethren in Christ denomination which had its beginnings in Lancaster County in the 18th century. In 1776 two believers with renewed spirituality baptized each other in the waters of the Susquehanna River near the present town of Maytown. They and others who joined them became known as the "River Brethren". The group grew and in the 1860's became known as the Brethren in Christ. The Brethren in Christ denomination has churches throughout the United States and Canada. As a result of missions endeavors there are also churches in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Nicaragua, Honduras, Venezuela, Japan, India, Nepal and Spain.
